Infection Preventionist Training Now Available – CMS Official Announcements

Mary Madison, RN, RAC-CT, CDP
Clinical Consultant – Briggs Healthcare®

I blogged last week to let you know of the specialized training now available on the CDC website for infection prevention and control in nursing homes as well as Infection Preventionist training. CMS has now officially confirmed my spring fever in QSO-19-10-NH issued yesterday, March 11, 2019.

As noted above, the training provides 19 hours of CE credits as well as a certificate of completion. In a national call with CMS this afternoon, CMS confirmed that the training meets the RoP requirements for the Infection Preventionist. CMS reminded listeners that more training may be needed depending on your facility’s population.

The title of this blog references announcements – there are 2 that I want to share with you. In addition to the information provided in the National Partnership to Improve Dementia Care in Nursing Homes & Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement call, it was announced that there will an advance copy of Appendix PP (State Operations Manual) released this summer with some changes to select Phase 2 guidelines as well as additional information re: Phase 3 interpretive guidance including trauma-informed care and training. Stay tuned!
