CMS held a second training session (1st was in early May in Kansas City) on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Econometrica/CMS announced that there were 300 attendees live in Baltimore with 2,350 online on Tuesday, August 13th (no numbers were provided for Wednesday). The agenda and the presentations were very similar to those in May but there were new slides and updated information provided. CMS did not answer questions regarding the release of the October 2019 RAI User’s Manual so we still are reviewing and absorbing the information in the May preliminary release. Based on what we learned during this week’s training session, the “final” release of the User’s Manual prior to October 1st will have some updates from the version we have now.
All of the training materials are available online. You’ll scroll down this webpage (bookmark it for future reference if you haven’t already) to find a wealth of information:
I included just the 2019 materials available – there’s older material posted as well. All of these downloads are in .zip files which means that each file has several files within it.
“Post-training materials (includes answers to knowledge checks and interactive sessions) from the May 2019 Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Quality Reporting Program (QRP) Provider Training held in Kansas City, MO, on May 7 and 8, 2019, are now available in the Downloads section at the bottom of this webpage.
Please note: Post-training materials include answers to knowledge checks and interactive sessions. Additionally, Section GG presentation has been updated to include links to videos shown during the training.”
I attended the live session in May and the webcast this week. Both sessions were extremely helpful in understanding the upcoming changes to the MDS 3.0 v1.17.1 Item Sets which includes items used in PDPM calculation as well as SNF QRP measures. I strongly encourage you and your team to review the August training materials in preparation for the significant changes in coding as well as the new reimbursement system heading our way on October 1, 2019. Take/review the sessions and recordings in small chunks – they’re easier to digest – but get started now. PDPM and the MDS 3.0 v1.17.1 is a mere 45 days from today. The clock is ticking! Be ready.
Here’s another valuable resource for your preparation for October 1st. SimpleLTC is hosting a 90-minute webinar on Tuesday, August 20th (10am – 11:30am CT) on PDPM RAI manual revisions as well as details on the Final Rule updates. We’re honored to have Joel VanEaton of Broad River Rehab as the presenter. Learn more about this important webinar or head straight to register before all the seats are filled. I’ll be in the audience as well. Check out other future offerings as well as on-demand webinars to learn more about PDPM, ICD-10 diagnosis coding, trauma-informed care and more. You’ll be glad you did!
