As the U.S. works to significantly increase COVID-19 vaccine administration, USP has been working with stakeholders and convening experts to identify and help address efficiency gaps (e.g., use of pre-drawn syringes) healthcare practitioners may encounter when handling and preparing COVID-19 vaccines.

Today (January 28, 2021), we (USP) have launched the second and third sections of the COVID-19 Vaccine Handling Toolkit. If you have previously downloaded the toolkit, please visit us again to get this latest version (version 2.0). This resource will continue to be updated frequently as we learn more about the currently available COVID-19 vaccines and new vaccines that enter the marketplace. Please sign up to receive future updates: Sign Up to Receive Critical Updates.

This toolkit includes strategies developed by independent experts, including government representatives from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to help close efficiency gaps and provide strategies to help support healthcare practitioners. The toolkit contains operational considerations for the following:

  • Preparation and labeling
  • Storage, handling and transport (NEW)
  • Waste and disposal (NEW)

These resources help facilitate operational efficiencies to accelerate delivery and support safe handling of COVID-19 vaccines while maintaining quality and ultimately the public’s trust.
