During the CMS SNF/LTC Open Door Forum on Thursday, August 5, 2021, CMS officials confirmed there would be no changes to the MDS 3.0 Item Set (v1.17.2) nor to the October 2019 RAI 3.0 User’s Manual (v1.17.1) for the upcoming FY 2022.  SNF/LTC facilities will continue the use of both through September 30, 2022.

Mary Madison, RN, RAC-CDP, Briggs LTC/Senior Living Clinical Consultant posed those questions during the ODF as well as the question regarding the status of an updated Appendix PP of the State Operations Manual.  Appendix PP contains the interpretive guidelines for the LTC Requirements of Participation (RoPs).  CMS had announced plans to post an update to Appendix PP (last updated in November 2017) during the second quarter of 2020 to cover the Phase 3 RoPs as well as clarifications to existing guidelines.  The COVID-19 Public Health Emergency obviously delayed work on this update.   CMS’ SNF Policy Coordinator Heidi Magladry replied that she was not aware, at this time, of plans to post an Appendix PP update.

Mary continues to monitor all things SNF/LTC and will notify you of any changes or updates.  If you’re not already a subscriber to BriggsNetNews, we encourage you to consider doing so.  It’s a free service provided by Briggs.  As a subscriber, newly posted blogs are automatically delivered to your inbox so you can stay up to date with post-acute care news and events.
